William Donald Carras passed away peacefully on September
18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Don was born on August 28, 1953 in Gastonia, NC, but grew up
in Charlotte, NC. Don played on the 1970 South Mecklenburg State Championship
Basketball Team. He graduated from Olympic High School in 1971 where he
“excelled” in basketball and was captain of the team in his senior year. He
also made All-County Honorable Mention in 1971. Don was an avid collector of
sports memorabilia and a “certified” rock music historian.
He had a good sense of humor and always kept his family and
friends entertained with his wild stories. Everyone knew him as “The Legendary
Big Don C” and also “Donno”. Don was a friend of Bill W. and very active in the
fellowship helping countless people along the way.
In 1979, Don was pre-deceased by his mother, Barbara Jane
Carras. Don leaves behind to cherish his memory his dad, William Gus Carras;
sister, Georgia Leigh Carras and Angela Carras Mann; and his favorite niece,
Karis Jane Mann; brother, William Justin Carras; father and step-mother, Don
and Nancy Bell; brother, Mike Bell; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Juneau; and
grand-daughter, Taylor Adele Barbee.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm September 22, 2014 at
Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, 7224 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC. Pastor Leo
Kuykendall will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Zion Baptist Church, 2437 Propst St., Gastonia, NC 28056. May his memory be eternal.
