Jeane Dennis

Jeane Aiken Daniel Dennis, 74, of Pineville, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 after a six month battle with brain cancer.

Jeane was born on April 29, 1939 in Durham, NC to the late Susan Aiken Daniel and Aubrey Clark Daniel. She graduated from Durham High School and attended Wake Forest University where she was a member of the String Society, and the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. After three years in Miami, Jeane spent eleven years in Raleigh, before moving with her three children to Wilmington, where she worked as a legal secretary and then at General Electric.

Jeane made a good life for herself, and in turn, made a great life for her children. She retired from GE in 2001 and moved to Pineville to be closer to family. Jeane enjoyed retirement to the fullest. She was an active member of Providence Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School class. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing canasta, cooking and eating good Southern food and following her grandchildren's academic, artistic and athletic pursuits. She loved watching Carolina Panthers games and any and all Wake Forest athletic events.

Jeane was devoted to her family and her many friends. She had a passion for life, a quick smile, a keen sense of humor and was ever the optimist. She loved the Lord and even when times were tough, her faith remained strong. Over the past three years, while fighting two different cancers, Jeane could often be seen wearing her "Choose Joy" necklace.

Jeane is survived by three children; Kimberly Dennis Powell and husband, David, of Charlotte, Jeffrey Todd Dennis and wife, Donna, of Raleigh and Kevin O'Neal Dennis of Charlotte, as well as three grandchildren who were the joys of her life; Hunter Clark Powell and Lindsey Burnette Powell of Charlotte and Jakob Lawrence Dennis of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Daniel Ellwanger and husband, Scott, of Charlotte, and a niece, Susan Ellwanger and a nephew, Chris Ellwanger and their families.

The family would like to thank Dr. Andrea McGrath, Dr. Jennie Hauschka, Dr. Robert Higgins, Dr. William Bobo, Dr. Tony Asher, Dr. Daniel Haggstrom, their staffs and the many people associated with the Levine Cancer Institute for the excellent care that was given to Jeane during her illness. Thanks also to the wonderful people of Bayada Home Health, Hospice and to Sandra Wilkins for their devoted care over the past several months.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 on Saturday, January 11 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. A memorial service in celebration of Jeane's life was held at 3:30 on Saturday, January 11 at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road, Charlotte. The family received friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
