Carolyn Brafford

Carolyn Brafford
September 21, 1954 - July 25, 2014
Carolyn Brafford, 59, born in Charlotte, NC to Bland A. Brafford and Barbara W. Hovis went home to be with her Lord Friday, July 25, 2014, at Sardis Oaks.

Carolyn was born a preemie baby and diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 13 months. She graduated from Independence High School. She loved playing the guitar and dulcimer. In fact, she played the 6 string and 12 string guitars. One thing she always wanted to do was become a nurse so she obtained her LPN through Central Piedmont Community College. She worked at Sharon Towers as an LPN and after working for nearly two years developed a blood clot which led to numerous complications and finally disability. Carolyn, strong and determined, did not let this stop her. She became a founding member of the Charlotte Chapter of HOW (Handicapped Organized Women). Her disability inevitably led her to a passion for personal ministry and being a messenger of Jesus Christ. After her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2012, she entered Sardis Oaks where her positive attitude and desire to see people know Jesus Christ blossomed, almost as if it were meant to be. Despite all the challenges life presented, Carolyn's faith never wavered - even with her final breath.

In addition to her mother, Carolyn is survived by her sisters Pam Brafford and Pat Ward and a brother Ashley Brafford. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff and community of Sardis Oaks. A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 3:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service's Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation at tnbcfoundation.org or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org.
