William J. Hudson

William "Bill" Hudson died after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.  

He was born to John L. and Virginia (McKinnon) Hudson on November 25, 1935 in Gaylord, MI. Bill resided in Ionia for most of his early life before settling in Lansing.  For the past 14 years he has lived in Charlotte, NC.

Bill's elementary and high school education was in Ionia, graduating in 1954 from Ionia High School.  He honorably served our country in the US Navy for 4 years.  In 1969, he graduated from Michigan State University with BS degree in Criminal Justice. Working for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections for 29 years, Bill served as a Corrections Office, Parole and Probation Officer, Prison Counselor, retiring as Chairman of the Michigan Parole Board in 1991. 

On February 17, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Judie Ann Grobbel at St. Mary's Church.  Judie survives him along with his children, Kathryn, William and David and grandchildren Jacob, William (Tyler), Nicholas, Mateo and Arecelia; sisters-in-law Winnifred (Win) Grobbel and Sharon Gobbel and brother-in-law Larry Reed; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister Vada Reed and brother Jack Hudson.

Bill was a long time and active member of St. Gerard Parish, Lansing and volunteered in a number of roles.  He was active in the parish athletic program, Boy Scouts, the Lansing Catholic Central School Board.  Bill was a devoted family man and a role model and mentor for many.  He was an avid sports fan and enthusiastically followed the MSU Spartans throughout his life. 

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday, August 14 at 10:30 AM in St. Gerard Church, Lansing, MI.  There will be visitation one hour prior at the Church.  Interment of his cremains will be in Great Lakes National Cemetary, Holly MI.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the Special Olympic, Cabarrus County NC.  A celebration of Bill's life will be held Wednesday, August 13 at 7:00 PM at Franks Press Box on West Saginaw Highway.  All family and friends are welcome.
