Terence Wright

Terence Albert Wright, "Terry", died peacefully at his home in Charlotte on the morning of March 27th, 2014.

Born in the East End of London in 1938 to Walter "Sonny" Wright and Jane Sarah Wright, Terry was one of four boys.

Terry was an entrepreneur, moving the family to the United States in 1977 to start a business. He was a man of few words, yet he had an ability to make people laugh with corny and oft-repeated jokes. He loved to travel, entertain, cook, read, dance embarrassingly to Greek music, and spend time with his family. He had fond memories of his days in England, especially his time spent at the Crown and Manor Boys Club. Terry was a most loyal Arsenal Football Club fan, second only to his brother Sid. He was an intelligent and quiet inspiration to us all. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Sonny. His surviving relatives include devoted wife, Lily Sang-Wright; brothers Harry and Sidney "Sid"; children, Martin Wright, Jimmy Wright, Susanne White, Louise Overcash and Katie Wright; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

The family would like to thank the wonderful support from Emerald Care and Hospice of Union County who brought joy and a huge amount of dignity to him during the last months of his life.

A service will be held on Monday, March 31st, at 11:00 a.m. at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29708.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC. 28110.

Evelyn Carpenter

Robert Hansen

Mr. Hansen died March 21, 2014 at The Serenity House.  Services were privately held.

Doris Humphries

Mrs. Humphries died March 18, 2014 at Catawba Valley.  No local services were held.

Charles Penter

Charles H. Penter died March 15, 2014, after a brief illness at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Chuck was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Jonesboro, Ark., to the late Sue and Homer Penter. After graduating from Arkansas State University with a B.S. degree in chemistry, Chuck served his country in the United States Army, 1st Cavalry Division. He was a decorated veteran serving as a Captain during the Vietnam War. Chuck enjoyed his many years in the trucking industry with Roadway Express, Consolidated Freightways and as a co-owner of Transportation Management Associates. Following retirement, Chuck earned a degree from Duke University and went on to receive a master's degree from George Washington University. At the time of his death he was serving as a Magistrate Judge for the Mecklenburg County Court System.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 31 years, Helen; sisters, Carolyn S. Flagg (Dwayne) of Hernando, Miss., and Donna Greene (Mike) of Lincoln, Ark.; mother- and father-in-law, Leila and Bruce Case of Americus, Ga.; brother- and sister-in-law, Mark and Anne Barrett of Leslie, Ga.; sister-in-law, Margaret Barrett of Acworth, Ga.; as well as many nieces, nephews and his best buddy and constant companion, Max. In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by his sister Pam Bennett, of Hot Springs, Ark.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road. The family will receive friends afterwards in the Blue Room.

Gloria Hoadland

Valentina Mayo

Mrs. Mayo died March 12, 2014 at University Place.  Services were privately held.

Harry Thomas Powell

Tom Powell died March 11, 2014, at The Haven at Carolina Place.

He was born in St. Louis, Mo. son of Harry Thomas and Ellnarose Behrens Powell on July 25, 1926. Tom came to Charlotte 60 years ago, compliments of Sunbeam Corp. After many years as a salesman, he received a Masters degree from Winthrop University and joyfully taught English and English Literature for 12 years at CPCC. Shortly after arriving in Charlotte, Tom became active in The Little Theatre of Charlotte and the Mint Museum's Golden Circle Theatre. For many years he volunteered at the NC Zoo in Asheboro and the Charlotte Nature Museum.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann and their six children: Kathryn Batts and her husband, Johnny, Thomas (Chip) and his wife, Sally, Betsy Compton and her husband, Jack, Marjorie, David and his, wife Diane, Susan Rivers; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Powell.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, with Pastor Chris Hermansen, officiating. Annie Hughes

Mrs. Hughes died March 11, 2014 at Elmcroft in Charlotte.  Services were privately held by the family.

Meredith Stoever

Meredith Dickinson Stoever, "Dick", of Charlotte passed away March 8, 2014, at the age of 82.

Dick was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Durham, to Henry Von Hoff Stoever, Jr. and Garetta Dickinson Stoever. He graduated high school from the Hill School in Potstown, Pa. and received his BA from the University of Virginia. He served two years in the army during the Korean War period. After graduation he started working for the Sun Oil Company, which ultimately brought him to Charlotte. He soon realized he was interested in pursuing a career in real estate and began working with C.D. Spangler. He quickly knew his passion lay in commercial real estate brokerage and development and after working with several companies in the Charlotte area ventured out on his own with Stoever Properties, Inc. Through his long career he made many friends who have stayed loyal to him and would remember him as good businessman who was always honest.

His community service included terms on the City and County Board of Adjustments. His other interests included competitive tennis until in his 50's he switched to golf and enjoyed many years of playing with his friends at Charlotte Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Henry Von Hoff Stoever III. He is survived by his devoted wife Rebecca Petrea Stoever and they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in August of this year. Additionally he is survived by his son, John Dickinson Stoever of Summerville, S.C.; his daughter, Meredith Stoever Marley (Will) of Durham; his four adored grandchildren, Sydney and Sam Stoever and Drew and Jordan Marley. Also surviving him are his sister-in law, Doris Petrea Mann of Decatur Ga.; brother-in-law, James R. Petrea (Ruth) of Durham; sister-in law, Cary T. Doyle of Richmond Va.; nephews, Henry Von Hoff Stoever IV of Bethesda, Md., Brude Dickinson Stoever of Richmond, Va., Steven Petrea Mann of Huntersville; nieces, Christy Mann Sawyer, of Decatur, Ga., Katherine Adams Petrea and Anna Colson Petrea of Durham and cousin Francis Osborne Parsons, of Rockport, Texas. Finally, Corky, the family dog.

The family wishes to thank the Novant Presbyterian Cardiovascular Center and their wonderful, caring, skilled staff, the doctors and nurses who took care of Dick in the neuro intensive care unit, the wonderful and professional staff on 5D in Presbyterian Hospital and the many kindnesses of the staff in the Harris Hospice Unit.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 11:00am at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte, followed by a reception. A private interment will be held in the church memorial garden prior to the service.
