Charles Penter

Charles H. Penter died March 15, 2014, after a brief illness at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Chuck was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Jonesboro, Ark., to the late Sue and Homer Penter. After graduating from Arkansas State University with a B.S. degree in chemistry, Chuck served his country in the United States Army, 1st Cavalry Division. He was a decorated veteran serving as a Captain during the Vietnam War. Chuck enjoyed his many years in the trucking industry with Roadway Express, Consolidated Freightways and as a co-owner of Transportation Management Associates. Following retirement, Chuck earned a degree from Duke University and went on to receive a master's degree from George Washington University. At the time of his death he was serving as a Magistrate Judge for the Mecklenburg County Court System.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 31 years, Helen; sisters, Carolyn S. Flagg (Dwayne) of Hernando, Miss., and Donna Greene (Mike) of Lincoln, Ark.; mother- and father-in-law, Leila and Bruce Case of Americus, Ga.; brother- and sister-in-law, Mark and Anne Barrett of Leslie, Ga.; sister-in-law, Margaret Barrett of Acworth, Ga.; as well as many nieces, nephews and his best buddy and constant companion, Max. In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by his sister Pam Bennett, of Hot Springs, Ark.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road. The family will receive friends afterwards in the Blue Room.
