Ray Ernest Selvey, age 91, passed away
April 28, 2014.
Mr. Selvey was born July 19, 1922, in
Charlotte, son of the late Myrtle Johnson Selvey and Newton Augustus Selvey.
Ray was an active member of Parkwood ARP Church, and later New Covenant ARP
Church for over 60 years. He taught Sunday school, enjoyed singing in the choir
and served as an elder and deacon. He also served on several church boards.
He
graduated from Charlotte Technical High School. He was particularly proud of
his service to his country. Ray served in the Army in World War II and later in
the Korean War. He served in the National Guard and left the service as a 1st
Lieutenant. Upon leaving military service he worked as a transportation
salesman and sales manager until his retirement.
He was married to his
childhood sweetheart, Doris Taylor Selvey for almost 68 years. In addition to
his wife Doris, Ray is survived by Lynn Salls, Margaret Griffin, Steve Selvey
and wife Judy, Scott Selvey and wife Tessa; grandchildren Kristen Selvey
Yancey, Brandon Selvey and Lauren Selvey. He was blessed to have three
great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to
thank the Brian Center Concord for their loving care.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, May 2nd, at Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union St. N., Concord, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 followed by a memorial service at 11:30. Pastor Andy Langford will officiate.
