Elaine Bates Hipp

Elaine was born in Leland, Mississippi and was preceded in death by her father and mother, Emmett Alton Bates and Bess Applewhite. She was the widow of Dr. Edward R Hipp Jr, her husband of 57 years and is survived by her daughter, Jean H. Bellow and husband Paul of Cypress, TX and her sons, Edward R Hipp III and wife Pinky of Smithfield, VA and Emmet Hipp and wife Sheri of Fort Mill SC, as well as by six grandchildren.
A true Southern lady, Elaine was elected Miss Leland of 1941, attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and graduated from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a major in political science and a minor in Spanish. An avid bridge player and voracious reader, Elaine had a zest for life and will be remembered for her sense of humor, love of animals, and kindness to everyone around her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 21 at 11:00 in the chapel at Southminster with a private internment ceremony at Christ Church’s Memorial Garden to follow.
