Gail Rothschild, age 66, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2014, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. She is survived by her loving daughter Renee Gail Spinicelli Leff as well as her son-in-law Jason Alan Leff.
Born February 8, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Rothschild and Frances Whalen Rothschild. Gail graduated from Northeastern University and went on to receive her Master's Degree in Education from Purdue University as well as a Master's Degree in Special Education from Queens College in Charlotte.
She served as an English teacher for over 25 years at Marist H.S. (NJ), Westfield H.S. (NJ), and The Frankfurt International School in Germany. Since retiring, Gail was an active member of the Matthews community. She served on the board of The Matthews Human Service Council for years. She also spent many years working with The Charlotte Civilian Club, Habitat for Humanity of Matthews, Special Olympics of Mecklenburg County, and The Matthews Chamber of Commerce where she has been awarded Volunteer of the Year and Ambassador of the Year on numerous occasions.
Additionally, Gail served on The Levine Senior Center Board of Directors and Advisory Council for several years. In addition to serving on these committees, Gail enjoyed teaching classes in Living Healthy with Chronic Disease, Diabetes Self-Management, and Matter of Balance at the Levine Center and in the community. Gail was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 14 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the Banquet Room at the Levine Senior Center located at 1050 Devore Ln. Matthews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to The Levine Senior Center, 1050 Devore Ln., Matthews, NC 28105.
