Kathleen “Katie” Mary Spinoso, of Charlotte, passed away on
September 8th 2014 after a 13-year fight against cancer.
She was born in Eau Clare, WI, on January 31, 1955 to John and Mary Carney and lived most of her life in Syracuse, NY. Katie graduated from Syracuse University in 1978 with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design Arts. She was married to James David Spinoso on August 21, 1976. Katie moved with her family to the Charlotte area in the summer of 1998. While living in Charlotte, NC, she worked for the Charlotte Observer from 2005-2014.
She is survived by her husband, James Spinoso; her children Charles Spinoso (spouse Dr. Megan Eatman), John Spinoso, and Carol Spinoso-Meeks (spouse SFC Eric Meeks); her two lovely grandchildren Trent Meeks and Olivia Meeks; her mother, Mary Carney; and her siblings Elizabeth Manahan, Maj. Thomas Carney, and James Carney.
Throughout her life, Katie touched many lives and warmed many hearts. She was an amazing mother, caring wife, loving sister, and wonderful friend. A private service will be held for family only.
In Katie's memory, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be made in her name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
