October 7, 1949 - August 30, 2014

Kenneth Walter Detwiler, 64, of Charlotte, passed away on August 30, 2014 with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with mesothelioma.

Born October 7, 1949, in Columbia, SC, Ken was born to the late Doris and Ernest Detwiler.  Ken was a devoted father and husband. For the last 34 years, Ken was a loving husband and best friend to Debra Griffin Detwiler. More than anything Ken enjoyed spending time with Debbie and his children, Kendal and Clay.

In addition to Debbie, Kendal and Clay, Ken is survived by his brothers, David Detwiler of Austin, TX and Richard Detwiler of Camden, SC.

Ken graduated from A.C. Flora High School ('67) and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University ('71). Ken worked as a project and consulting engineer across the country and throughout the world for over 40 years. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hiking and camping in the mountains with his family and dogs. He was an avid sports fan, watching the Clemson Tigers, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Braves when he could.

A private celebration of his life will be held by the family.
